Reports to: Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration, Planning & Finance)
Duties and Responsibilities
An officer in this level is responsible for:
In charge of health services and exercising overall supervision of the health personnel in the University
Ensuring the smooth delivery of health care to the employees of the University and their families.
Responsible for management of resources for the operation of medical services
Providing health education and control measures for preventable diseases and injuries.
Providing formal and informal training to other health personnel in the Medical Department.
Leading and actively participating in the care coordination program including;
(i) monitoring of the appropriateness of consultations;
(ii) diagnosing procedures;
(iii) utilization of resources; and
(iv) leading all initiatives that concerns involving patient safety, quality, infection control and risk management, patient service, ethics;
diagnosing, caring and treating of diseases.
Performing medical and surgical procedures.
Preparing forand responding to emergencies and disasters.
Participating in management of medicines, medical instruments and equipment.
Providing health education, maintaining medical records, health information and data.
Counseling patients and their relatives on diagnoses and bereavement.
Conducting internal audit quality checks at the health unit
Preparing, implementing and reviewing of the department's strategic plan and annual work plan.
Ensuring conformance to the requirements of management systems in the Department in conformance to ISO certification standards and aligning processes to ensure they deliver the intended outputs of the management system.
Preparing the department's annual budget and procurement plan.
Conducting annual appraisal of members of staff in the department.
Any other official duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Academic / Professional Requirements
Master’s degree in relevant medical field from recognized institution.
Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery
Four (4) years’ experience as Deputy Chief Medical Officer
Be registered by a relevant professional body
Have a valid practicing license
Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results
Senior Management Course and/or strategic Leadership course will be an added advantage
